About Easter and the Easter Bunny

The origin of Easter

This year 2022, Easter falls on 17th of April Sunday. During the season of Easter holidays, Germans decorate with Easter Bunny as the actual Easter bunny legend is rooted in German tradition. A legend holds that a poor woman living in Germany decorated colourful eggs for her children to find in the garden. As soon as the hidden eggs were found by the children, a large hare was seen hopping away. The children thought the hare (Hase) left the eggs. This ancient legend is thought to be the root of the Easter bunny we know and love today. Like the egg, the rabbit is a symbol of new life and rebirth.

You might be curious about the reason that rabbit which has the meaning of new life and rebirth become the decoration for Easter. Easter is the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus from the tomb on the third day after his crucifixion. Easter is the fulfilled prophecy of the Messiah who would be persecuted, die for our sins, and rise on the third day (Isaiah 53). Remembering the resurrection of Jesus is a way to renew daily hope that we have victory over sin. According to the New Testament, Easter is three days after the death of Jesus on the cross.

The Date

Easter has a different date every year. It may come as early as the 4th Sunday in March or as late as the 4th Sunday in April, because Easter is observed taking into account the lunar calendar. Early churches celebrated Easter based on the Passover. We hope that your Easter is extra bright and happy this year.
